Recently, news has been filled with headlines regarding the recall of breast implants linked to breast cancer. The Allergan BIOCELL textured breast implants were found in the majority of cases of people suffering from a rare type of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma called breast implant-associated large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
This led to the FDA and Allergan to recall all their BIOCELL breast implants and tissue expanders.
Regardless of if you have breast implants or not, the CDC recommends that women should perform self-inspection tests and mammograms to detect any lumps or breast irregularities that could be signs of cancer.
Studies by the CDC and the National Cancer Institute found that breast cancer is the number one type of cancer with the highest number of new diagnoses. Breast cancer that is diagnosed early responds better to treatment. Getting diagnosed and treated on time are key in beating this disease.
